Adding Your First Tool
There are three ways to add a tool to your collection.
Option 1: Search the Catalog
Section titled “Option 1: Search the Catalog”Tap the + button, then type the tool name or brand into the catalog search. ToolDB will suggest matching tools from the 51,000+ tool database. Select one and the name, brand, model number, and type will be auto-filled.
Option 2: Scan a Barcode
Section titled “Option 2: Scan a Barcode”Tap Scan UPC and point your camera at the tool’s barcode or packaging. ToolDB will look up the tool and auto-fill the details.
This works great when you’re in the shop adding tools one by one.
Option 3: Enter Manually
Section titled “Option 3: Enter Manually”Tap Enter manually to fill in all details yourself. Useful for older tools or anything not in the catalog. You can enter any tool type — including custom types like “Snow Blower” or “Pressure Washer” that aren’t in the preset list.
Filling In the Details
Section titled “Filling In the Details”After selecting a tool, fill in the remaining fields:
| Field | What It’s For |
|---|---|
| Serial Number | Found on the tool’s label — important for insurance claims |
| Purchase Date & Price | Used for collection value and insurance reports |
| Retailer | Where you bought it |
| Warranty Expiry | ToolDB will alert you before this date |
| Location | Where the tool lives (Garage, Main Toolbox, Van, etc.) |
| Condition | New, Good, Fair, or Poor |
| Custom Fields | Add your own fields like Blade Size or Collet Size |
| Notes | Anything else worth knowing |
Tap Save Tool when done.
Duplicating a Tool
Section titled “Duplicating a Tool”Own multiples of the same tool? Open an existing tool’s detail page and tap Duplicate. This copies all fields (except serial number) into a new entry that you can customize.
